Psychological Causes of ED - Are Emotional Issues Affecting Your Erections?

As men age, their bodies begin to break down in different ways. They begin to weaken and their systems and organs do not function as they once did. This is the natural aging process. One of the conditions that many older men find themselves dealing with is erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is a condition that is characterized by the inability of a man to achieve and maintain an erection that is suitable to be used during sexual intercourse. Studies have shown that physical and psychological erectile dysfunction factors play a role in whether or not a man will suffer from this condition.

Erectile dysfunction psychological factors can have serious negative effects on the body. Anxiety and stress are some of those factors. When a man leads a stressful lifestyle, his body is under a lot of pressure. The stress he is under puts all of his systems on edge and over time, they will not work as well as they once did. Blood flow is usually one of the first parts of the body that will be affected by stress. When blood flow is restricted, there are lower amounts of blood that is being passed through the body.

When there is less blood flowing through the body, there is less blood going to the penis. This affects his ability to achieve an erection. Another erectile dysfunction psychological factor that comes into play is the man’s relationship with his partner. If a man and his partner are not on good terms for one reason or another, this can subconsciously affect his ability to perform sexually. When negative feelings are being kept inside and nothing is being dealt with, additional stress is placed onto the body and the result is negative. The body can only handle so much stress and negativity before things start to go wrong.

There are many erectile dysfunction problems that men have to deal with. Stress and anxiety is a normal part of life but when men let it fester and build up, a negative result will be seen. Some men do not believe that their stress can be the cause of their erectile dysfunction but there are many studies to prove this point. The body works like a machine and over time can break down if not nurtured well. By reducing stress and worry, a man may be able to improve his sexual function and go on to enjoy his sex life again.
