Erectile Dysfunction Disorder – How It Occurs?


If you were to turn on the television or to tune in to the radio, you are bound to hear an advertisement talking about erectile dysfunction disorder. While most of us will not pay a second thought to these advertisements, erectile dysfunction is a serious condition that many men are suffering from, many of them doing so in silence. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve and maintain an erection that will be adequate for sexual activity. When a man is not able to hold an erection, his life can be affected in many ways, most of them negative.

In general terms, an erection occurs when the penis becomes engorged with blood. The process is a complex process that spontaneously happens and involves many parts of the body. The erection process begins by the man becoming sexually aroused. The brain recognizes this and sends a signal that releases a chemical. This chemical causes the penis to relax the muscles surrounding it. These muscles allow for the inflow of blood. This blood fills the penis during an erection. If any part of this process does not occur, the man is said to be suffering from erectile dysfunction disorder.


There are varying degrees of erectile dysfunction disorder. The least severe case would be when a man is occasionally unable to sustain an erection. Most often, these cases can be written off to a man being tired or having had too much to drink. On the opposite end, the most severe case would be when a man is rarely able to sustain an erection. Sexual activity is a huge part of many lives and if a man is not able to maintain the sex life he is accustomed to, his quality of life will change drastically.

Research is ongoing for erectile dysfunction disorder and some causes have been confirmed. The main cause is due to age. As a man ages, his body changes and begins to slow down. This could affect his sex life. Inactivity and not exercising is another factor for erectile dysfunction. The better shape a man is in, the better quality of life he will have to include his sex life. Just because a man is aging, that does not mean he has to change his life. By leading a healthy lifestyle and being active, a man can enjoy life and have a healthy sex life for a long time to come.
